LdJ 26 Mars 2012: Miscellaneous outrages.

In another fine example the lack of actual congressin’ in the US congress(*), a widely renowned and publicly connected expert on security was removed from the roster of people giving public testimony:

Earlier today, the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure held a hearing titled ‘TSA Oversight Part III: Effective Security or Security Theater?’ … In a blog update, Bruce Schneier says that ‘at the request of the TSA’ he was removed from the witness list. Bruce also said ‘it’s pretty clear that the TSA is afraid of public testimony on the topic, and especially of being challenged in front of Congress. They want to control the story, and it’s easier for them to do that if I’m not sitting next to them pointing out all the holes in their position. Unfortunately, the committee went along with them.'”

What exactly, then, is the purpose of this charade?

According to MSNBC, some of the people profiting directly from increased oil prices and oil speculation seem to be paying for a campaign to blame Obama for it.

What’s more, they probably get a tax deduction for doing this, as we learned from the Fakegate emails.

Daily Newspapers everywhere are publishing headlines as stupid as “Is this finally proof we’re NOT causing global warming? The whole of the Earth heated up in medieval times without human CO2 emissions, says new study:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2120512/Global-warming-Earth-heated-medieval-times-human-CO2-emissions.html , headlines so stupid that one has no time to get the head-vise at all.

An obvious fraud hires enough fake experts to cast enough doubt that he gets away with continuing to abuse the good will and credulity of honest Christians. He prevails in an Israeli court. His allies proclaim him vindicated.

Mining groups challenged an academic publication on mine safety in court. Bureaucratic jockeying by a stakeholder succeeds in squelching results that passed peer review.
