Droughtbuster: Flooding in San Antonio

Parts of San Antonio have gotten over ten inches of rain so far today. Needless to say there is serious flooding. There has been at least one fatality, and many homes are badly damaged. Add San Antonio 2013 to the whipsaw file.

We’ve had plenty of rain here in nearby Austin this weekend, though not into flood territory, and are above normal for the year. We may be inching out of drought by the next report, too, though the reservoirs remain low. The biota are happier than they’ve been in a couple of years right now. But San Antonio is not having a happy holiday weekend.

  1. All the moving parts of the extended system are going ballistic. To me this is not good news. But at the moment in New Jersey it is as beautiful as I've ever seen it. (And we had a hummingbird out the kitchen window at breakfast, which is pure delight.) Supposed to be in the 90s by the weekend, which is really weird.
